Block of the Month Program FAQs & Policies


What is a Block of the Month program? How does it work?

Block of the Month (BoM) programs make quilting affordable and easy... you get a beautiful quilt that is broken down into pieces that won't overwhelm you or your pocketbook! Once you sign-up the rest is automatic, each month you will be charged a fixed fee for one block of the quilt and receive everything you need to complete that block.

When you sign-up for a BoM program, it is understood that you are signing up for the entire program and we will reserve an entire quilt for you. Each monthly block charge will automatically occur on the billing date for the program using the credit card you used to sign-up for the program. Each monthly block will be sent out on the shipping date for the program.

What is the difference between Pre-Cut and Traditional applique?

Our programs use pre-cut applique pieces precision cut with a laser. Pre-Cut applique is where all your shapes are pre-cut and pre-fused. All you need to do is peel off the backing, iron it down and stitch around the edges.

Traditional applique is where you trace and cut out your templates, turn the edges and stitch down your pieces either by hand or machine. We do not have any programs that offer traditional applique.

What’s included in my BoM program?

Everything that is included in your BoM program is listed in the product description as well as on the Welcome letter that you receive with your first shipment. Each block will also contain a list of the specific materials needed to complete that block. Please refer to this information first and then let us know if you have any additional questions.

If your BoM program includes the sashing, borders and binding they are included in the final shipment of the program. If your BoM program has embellishments (beads, buttons, etc) these are, as a general rule, sent with the final block of your program as they are not added until after your project has been quilted. Backing fabric and batting are not included.

What is the BoM Facebook group all about?

With so many people using Facebook these days, we have set up a special Facebook group that only BoM participants can access. This group will allow you to share your progress, ask questions, and get access to tips and tricks videos. The group will be moderated by the pattern designer, Kris Poor of Poorhouse Quilt Designs.

What do I need to get signed up for the Facebook group?

Send us a message through the Stina's Quilt and Sewing Supplies Facebook page and we will add you to the group. Please allow 1-2 days to be added to the group.

What do I do if I don't use Facebook?

Not a problem, while Facebook is very popular we understand that not everyone uses it.  Send us an email using the contact information below and we will email you links to the videos.

When do I get charged?

Your first block will be charged within 2 days of your initial registration.  If you registered between the 1st and 15th of the month, the next block will be charged on the 14th of the next month.  All remaining blocks will be charged on the 14th of every month.  If you registered between the 15th and 31st of the month, the next block will be charged on the 29th of the next month.  All remaining blocks will be charged on the 29th of the month.

Your Welcome email that you will receive after registration will contain a detailed charging schedule for your entire program. You will also receive this information in the Welcome packet sent with your first shipment.

When do my blocks ship?

Your first block will be shipped within 3 days of your initial registration.  If you registered between the 1st and 15th of the month, the next block will ship approximately on the 16th of the next month.  All remaining blocks will be shipped out approximately on the 16th of the month (it may be earlier or later if the 16th falls on a Sunday).  If you registered between the 15th and 31st of the month, all remaining blocks will be shipped out approximately on the 30th of the month (it may be earlier or later if the 30th falls on a Sunday).

Your welcome packet that you will receive after registration will contain a detailed shipping schedule for your entire program. You will also receive an email when the block is shipped letting you know it is on the way (with a tracking number).

Why do you charge a non-refundable Registration Fee? Also, why is the first month's block cost non-refundable?

These charges tell us that you are invested in the program, as well as it helps us to cover the initial costs of the patterns and fabrics needed. It also allows us to offer you the quilt at a reasonable monthly fee without a large lump-sum payment at the end for borders, binding, etc. Typically, at the end of the program we provide some kind of embellishment extras that are of equal or greater value than the registration fee.

How much is shipping?

Domestic shipping is included with all the blocks of the program. International shipping is available on request, please contact us using the contact information provided below.

Why can't I use Paypal?

Unfortunately, the software tool we use to run our BoM programs does not work with Paypal payment processing at this time. A credit card is required to purchase our programs.

Can I cancel my Block of the Month program? We understand that things happen that causes you to need to cancel, please let us know right away. If you cancel before the program is over the Registration Fee and the first month block is not refundable.

Will I get the complete pattern?

Yes, with each block, you will receive the pages and templates necessary to complete that block.  By the end of the program you will have all the pages for the complete pattern.

I already have the pattern, can I get a credit ?

We cannot offer credit on any of our pre-cut applique programs as we MUST include the pattern with our program due to copyright laws.

Is it too late to sign-up for a Block of the Month program that already started?

As long as there are still spots available, you may join a program any time after it has started. We do not run our programs to a set calendar so once you register the program will follow the number of months as described in the specific BoM program description.

What happens if I make a mistake?

If you should make a small mistake on a particular applique piece you can call and request a replacement. We will do our best to provide a replacement when fabric is available. If you make a large mistake we usually have extra fabric available for you to purchase at a small price. Please give us a call and we will do whatever we can to help you remedy it.

What kind of stitch do I use for the pre-cut pieces?

You may use any stitch you like to sew down your shapes. Some of the most popular stitches are blanket, straight or a small zig zag.

The fabric used for some of my pieces do not match the fabrics used in the photographs, why?

We strive to match the fabrics in the product description photos as closely as possible, but substitutions may occur due to availability of fabrics.

How do I contact you concerning my Block of the Month program?

If you are having trouble with assembling some part of the quilt, you can use our BoM Facebook group to post your comments or questions. Using the Facebook group is encouraged as there may be others that are having the same problem and we can provide the information to everyone in the group.

Call us at 603-818-6960. Our normal office hours are Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm ET. Please be aware that we have a small staff so we might not be able to answer your call directly. If you get our voicemail please leave us your name, phone number and the reason for your call. We respond to all emails/phone calls within 1-2 business days. If you do not receive a response from us within that time, please resend your email or give us a call.

I have not received this month's block, what do I do?

For domestic addresses, please allow 5-7 days for delivery after your assigned shipping date. For International addresses, please allow 4-6 weeks for deliver after your assigned shipping date. International shipments typically arrive within 2-3 weeks; however, they can take up to 4-6 weeks, depending on how quickly it clears your country’s customs. If you do not receive your shipment 4 weeks following the shipping date let us know and we will look into it further. We will, however, need to wait the full 6 weeks before sending a replacement.

If you do not receive your shipment within these time frames call or email us using the contact information provided above. While having a missing block is frustrating, rest assured, we will make sure you receive everything you need in order to complete your project.

I did not get the Welcome email, what went wrong?

If you do not receive your Welcome email within 24 hours of registration call or email us using the contact information provided above.

How do I update my credit card?

  • Log-in to your account at stinasquilt.com.
  • Click on the "Manage BoM Registrations" link below your email address.
  • Click on the "Manage" link for your order and change your card information as necessary.

How do I change my shipping address?

Can I get all the Block/Kits at once?

Our programs are assembled on a month-to-month basis; however, there are some programs we get ahead on. If all the Blocks for your program are ready, we would be happy to charge the remainder and ship them together. If you are interested, just email or call us and we can let you know where we stand on your program.
